If Portugal want to win their first-ever European title, it didn’t go as planned against France.

Cristiano Ronaldo was injured in the opening minutes Sunday, colliding with French midfielder Dimitri Payet in the knee area.

Ronaldo’s knee buckled, and he was able to resume the match but lacked his usual quickness. Another collision minutes later put him back on the ground, this time with trainers and teammates surrounding him.

Ronaldo has nine goals in his Euro career, tied for the competition record set by France’s Michael Platini.

In typical Ronaldo fashion, something special happened even while he was on the ground. A butterfly came down to the field while Ronaldo was down, landing on his eyelash while he tended to his knee.

Portugal have played more Euro matches (34) than any European team without winning the title.
