THE murder of former President John F Kennedy in 1963 was executed by one of his own team, according to veteran filmmaker Oliver Stone.
Stone – who directed the acclaimed film JFK – made the shocking revelation after being told the tale in a shocking deathbed confession.
Dying of cancer, a man known as ‘Ron’, told Stone how he was part of the former President’s security team and how he wanted to share a secret with the film director.
Stone explained that ‘Ron’ had only told his son the shock revelation but wanted to tell the world that “somebody from his own team… had fired on the President”.
‘Ron’ got in touch with Stone via secret messages before the two finally met.
Stone, whose film JFK was sympathetic to conspiracy theories, said he was skeptical about the claims because there has been so many stories regarding JFK’s murder in Dallas.
Former US marine Lee Harvey Oswald was alleged to have shot Kennedy from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository.
Oswald was then killed two days later after being shot by a local nightclub owner with links to organised crime.
It has also been rumoured that one of the fatal shots was fired from a nearby grassy mound, although his murder still remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries.
The “military jargon” which “Ron” used convinced Stone that the assassination attempt was “plausible” and “very authentic”.
He told the security agent’s confession to Matt Zoller Seitz, the author of a book about to be released on Stone.
Asked why Stone waited until his death to reveal his secret, Seitz told the Mail: “I think it was because he trusted me, and also because both the father and the son have been dead for a while.
“Nobody has ever heard this story. I’m the first person.”
The book, titled The Oliver Stone Experience, recalls the meeting between Stone and “Ron”.
The scenario he laid out was very practical. It’s the way I would do it, if [I] were going to do something like that
“You kill the president, and your cover is security, and if the sniper or snipers who kill the president are hidden in with the guys who are supposed to protect him, guys who have no knowledge of this plot… It makes a lot of sense.”
“And his memory of it was so technical, filled with military jargon, details about radio communications right after the shots.”
The book, titled The Oliver Stone Experience, will be published on September 13 by Abrams & Chronicle books.
