Man Killed by Thieves who Stole His Car

A man has been killed by thieves who stole his car in Chorlton, Manchester.

Police believe Michael Samwell was run over by his own black Audi S3 at about 3am on Sunday.

He was found with serious injuries.

The 35-year-old was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Mr Samwell had gone to confront the thieves after he and his wife heard a loud bang downstairs.

Greater Manchester Police has launched a murder investigation and is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick said: “This is the murder of an innocent man who has merely sought to protect his property from criminals.

“We will not stop until we have found the person responsible for this dreadful crime.”

Mr Samwell’s Audi was found abandoned shortly after the theft and was extensively damaged.
